About Us
The Village Voices of Qualicum Beach is a mixed, divisi, SATB community choir led by professional musicians. It was founded, as an unregistered, non-profit organization, in 1992 - see History - by a group of singers looking to create something new. The choir has grown from a modest membership of 25 to approximately 70 singers.
The season is comprised of two terms: September to December and January to May. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings at The Christian Fellowship Centre in preparation for annual concerts in November, December and April. (we are a non-denominational community group and not affiliated with any of the churches in which we rehearse and perform) Performances are at the Christian Fellowship Centre in QB, Knox United Church in Parksville and various other venues around Oceanside.
Our current director is Patricia Plumley.
Membership dues were originally collected by passing the hat! Two decades later, the fees are now $90.00 per term.
We sing a variety of choral music including jazz, gospel, broadway, pop, classical, African, Latin, Canadiana, folk etc.
Voice Placement Interviews
Voice Placement Interviews for the Village Voices are held in late August/September for the September-December term and in December/January for the January-May term.
This is a chance to meet the Director so that she may become acquainted with your voice and musical abilities. With such a large group it is extremely helpful for the Director to have a sense of her singers. This assists with deciding where best to place you. The Voice Placement Interview is easy, casual and fun!
To set up a time to meet the Director you may email Patricia Plumley at plumleymusic@shaw.ca
